The Folk Heritage Museum in Bhutan, also known as the Phelchey Toenkhyim Museum, is a significant cultural institution located in Thimphu, Bhutan's capital. Established in 2001, the museum provides a vivid insight into the traditional rural lifestyle of Bhutanese people, focusing on the customs, tools, and domestic activities that have shaped the country's cultural identity for centuries.

The Folk Heritage Museum was founded under the patronage of Her Majesty the Queen Mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck. Its mission is to preserve and showcase Bhutan's rich cultural heritage by displaying traditional artifacts, household tools, and farming implements used by Bhutanese families in the past. The museum aims to bridge the gap between Bhutan’s modern society and its deeply rooted rural traditions, offering both locals and visitors an authentic glimpse into the country’s past.

The museum is housed in a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse, dating back to the mid-19th century, which has been carefully preserved to reflect the typical rural Bhutanese home. This three-story building is constructed using local materials like wood, stone, and earth, showcasing the distinctive Bhutanese architectural style.

The farmhouse is surrounded by a lush garden that includes rice paddies, wheat fields, and a vegetable garden, where visitors can observe traditional agricultural practices. There is also a water mill nearby, which is an integral part of rural Bhutanese life, demonstrating how grains were ground using water power.

The Folk Heritage Museum plays an important role in preserving and promoting Bhutan’s rural traditions at a time when modernization is rapidly transforming the country. By showcasing the tools, practices, and lifestyle of Bhutanese farmers, the museum ensures that younger generations remain connected to their cultural roots and that visitors gain a deeper appreciation of Bhutan's unique cultural heritage.

A visit to the Folk Heritage Museum offers an immersive experience into Bhutan’s rural life. Visitors can explore the farmhouse, observe traditional agricultural methods, and participate in hands-on activities, providing a well-rounded understanding of the daily life of Bhutanese people in the past.

For both tourists and locals, the museum is an educational space that brings Bhutanese history to life, making it a must-visit for those seeking to understand the heart of Bhutan’s rural heritage.

The trail to Lungchutse Lhakhang is one of the most scenic hikes in Bhutan, passing through lush forests filled with towering rhododendron trees, firs, hemlocks, and bamboo. It starts near the Druk Wangyal Chortens at Dochula and ascends gradually through the forest, offering breathtaking views along the way. Hikers are often rewarded with sightings of various bird species and, occasionally, wildlife such as deer and mountain goats.
