Medina, also known as Madinah, is one of the most significant cities in Islam, located in the Hejaz region of Saudi Arabia. It is the second holiest city after Mecca and holds immense religious importance as the final resting place of Prophet Muhammad. Medina became the center of the Islamic world following the Prophet's migration from Mecca in 622 CE, an event known as the Hijra, which marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar.
The city is most famous for the Prophet’s Mosque (Al-Masjid an-Nabawi), a major pilgrimage site that houses the Prophet’s tomb. Medina is also home to numerous other historical and religious sites, including Quba Mosque, the first mosque built by the Prophet, and Uhud Mountain, the site of the Battle of Uhud.
Today, Medina combines rich Islamic history with modern developments, providing a peaceful and spiritual atmosphere for Muslims and visitors from around the world
