Hamirsar Lake

Hamirsar Lake is one of the major travel attractions in Kutch district of Gujarat. It is located in Bhuj area and is an ancient water reservoir that bears the name of Raja Hamir, a Jadeja King and founder of Bhuj. His son, Rao Khengarji, choose this place for the construction of the lake for resolving the water issues that were encountered by the locales of this region. The canal system was introduced for maintaining the flow of water.

Why Is It Famous?
Hamirsar Lake is popular in different ways. The most popular reason that makes it famous is the tradition of worshiping the overflowing waters of the lake. In the previous times when Bhuj didn’t receive a heavy rain, a yagna was organized by the Royals to make it rain. After a downpour that made the lake’s water overflow, a puja was conducted by the royal family. Each year when the waters overflow during the monsoons, the same custom is repeated.
