Neemach Mata Temple, Udaipur Overview

Located on the top of the lush green Dewali hill near Fateh Sagar Lake in Udaipur (Rajasthan), Neemach Mata Temple enshrines the stone idol of Neemach Mata Devi (also known as Ambaji). Neemach Mata is also popularly famous as Vaishno Devi of Udaipur. Greatly revered by the Hindu devotees and pilgrims, the deity is said to be the clan goddess of the royal family of Maharanas. It is believed that the temple is constructed in the year 1652-1680.


This beautiful temple and the main stone idol here are known to have a connection with a Neem tree. So, it is strongly believed that one who visits the temple regularly will never get any skim problem because of the spiritual soul of the tree. People have a strong faith in the supreme power of the deity and therefore, this is a center of people’s faith. The captivating beauty of the temple draws a number of tourists here.


One has to climb the whopping height of 850 meters to reach Neemach Mata Temple. The temple has both stairs and footways to walk up. One can have a panoramic view of the whole city and its lakes from the temple while climbing. The walk to the temple is pollution-free as no vehicles can enter the outer limit of the hill. The entire way is covered with natural mountain forest and luxuriant greenery which makes the hard journey look easy.

The main attraction of this temple is the stone idol of Neemach Mata Devi which is 56 inches in height and 23 inches in width. There is also an idol of Lord Ganesha and three-side facing lions in the temple, which is about 22.1 inches and 12.1 inches wide. Outside the inner temple, there is a Hawan Kund, where Yojna is performed.

On festival days especially, the pooja celebrations of Neemach Mata are held in a great way. On Dipawali, Dashera, Navaratas of Chaitra and Ashwin, and other festival days, Bhajan singing and various other programs are held here.
