Masjid-e-Ala

Built during the reign of Tipu Sultan, Masjid-e-Ala is a mosque that needs no formal introduction. It is a popular pilgrimage site for the followers of Islam. It was erected in the Indo-Islamic style of architecture and is a huge crowd puller in Srirangapatna. Visitors from distant places throng to Mysore city and visit Srirangapatna to see this amazing grandeur of the foregone times.

It Is Known For:-
1)    Masjid-e-Ala is known for its architecture. It is constructed in the Indo-Islamic style of architecture and is adorned with motifs on the ceiling from inside.

2)    It has minarets that are carved with the floral designs that enhance the beauty of the mosque.

3)    This mosque lacks a dome.

4)    Several attempts to destroy the mosque were made by the foreign powers but all went in vain due to the mighty warriors in Tipu’s army. When he was killed, the British captured this mosque and handed over it to the Wodeyars that managed the mosque.

5)    Eid is celebrated here with a great pomp and various pilgrims gather here on the auspicious occasion.

Masjid-e-Ala is visited on a huge scale by the locals and visitors alike. Religious scholars also visit at this place because a Madarsa is run in the mosque. It can be visited at any time. The best time for visiting the mosque is in the holy month of Ramadan and on Eid.
