Chamunda Devi Temple is a name that everyone knows. It is a famous Hindu temple in Kangra. Enshrining Goddess Durga, this Hindu temple is more than 800 years old. It is frequented by the followers of Hinduism on a huge scale, especially on the occasion of Navaratri. Chamunda Devi Temple is well-known in the region because according to the myths, it is the exact site where Goddess Durga executed the demons named Chanda & Munda. They had a boon that no male on the earth, even with the best weapon, can kill them. Thus, Goddess Durga killed them and got the name Chamunda, the slayer of Chanda & Munda. Her idol is wrapped in a red cloth that is changed every day. No devotee is allowed to touch the idol of the goddess. Lord Shiva is also present inside the temple in the form of a Shivalinga and is worshiped on a daily basis.

Chamunda Devi is a sacred shrine that is visited by the devotees on a huge scale. It can be visited during any season of the year. This temple witnesses a huge footfall on the occasion of Navaratri and Maha Shivaratri. These pious occasions welcome the devotees on a huge scale. Special aarti of Goddess Chamunda is performed for nine days and Prasad is distributed among the pilgrims. Similarly, the mahaabhisheka is performed on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri by the devotees.
Watch Out!
You’re not allowed to click pictures inside the temple sanctum. Moreover, no one is allowed to enter the temple premises carrying a leather item. The leather is considered impure. Thus, all visitors are expected to abide by the rules.
