Mattupetti Dam

Mattupetti, Madupetty, and Mattupetty- all three names are correct. Mattupetti is a beautiful hill town in Munnar (Kerala) and is known for housing various attractions. One of the must-see places there is Mattupetti Dam. Mattupetti Dam is a storage concrete dam. It was constructed between 1949-1953 for the purpose of conserving the water and generating hydroelectricity. Presently, it lures tourists on an extensive scale.

1) The enchanting surroundings of the dam make it a popular picnic spot amid tourists
2) Due to the availability of the fresh water, herd of elephants can be spotted on the other side of the dam

Best Time To Visit:-
Being a popular attraction in Munnar, Mattupetti Dam is flocked by hundreds of tourists throughout the year. The peak season begins in late July and lasts till October. This dam can also be visited during the monsoons, though navigation is prohibited during that time.

Reaching There:-
Munnar has a wider network of railways and roadways. Thus, you can reach Mattupetti Dam either by bus or by hiring a cab. After reaching the town of Mattupetti, you can reach the dam by walking a short distance.
