Sanchi Yakshi Figure

Sanchi Yakshi Figure, originally known as Shalabhanjika Yakshi Figure, is an ancient sandstone sculpture. It stands in the complex of the Great Stupa and holds an important significance for the followers of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. The sculpture of Shalabhanjika Yakshi attracts the attention of the visitors on a huge scale despite being in a semi-ruined position.

1)    Sanchi Yakshi Figure is the symbolization of the female fertility. She is depicted as a fertile woman who can make a tree bear fruits just by touching it with her foot.

2)    The sculpture of Shalabhanjika Yakshi dates back to the era of the Satvahana dynasty.

3)    The Yakshis are said to be voluptuous and beautiful women that are also known as tree spirits. They were young maidens that made the trees blossom.

4)    Yakshis, according to Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism, possess the powers of different elements of earth and Shalabhanjika Yakshi is described as the Yakshi of the earth element.

Sanchi Yakshi Figure is located in the complex of the Great Stupa. It is a major attraction that draws the devotees and tourists alike. Although it is a place that can be visited throughout the year, the best season to make the visit rewarding is between October-February.
