Introduction to Alwar Fort Alwar:
Rajasthan is a study in many colors. If some parts of the state speak about the timeless desert, others showcase the cultural heritage of the Princely state. Still others tell of the socio cultural life style of Rajasthan. Alwar situated on the fringe end of the Aravali hills is a perfect place if you are interested in Heritage buildings and monuments. These monuments and forts tell you of a way of life that reflects the richly heritage and traditions of the Rajputs.

The monument of the city gives you a perfect example of the Indo Islamic architecture. Perched atop the hill is an ancient and derelict fort that is taken to be the landmark of the city.

Alwar Fort or Bala Quila Fort as it is popularly known as is one of the finest specimens of Indo Islamic architecture. Situated in a steep hill 300 meters above the city, it is considered to be a major landmark in Alwar. It was built even before the Mughal came into the scene. Babur is said to have spent a night here away from the prying eyes of his enemies.

History of Alwar Fort :
Alwar Fort is said to have been built in the 16th century and was later taken over by Rana Pratap Singh in 1775. However opinion differs amongst the historians about how it was conquered. Some say it was never besieged but passed over from one ruler to the other through signing of treaties. Jahangir is said to have spend a night here and to commemorate that a hall in the fort has been named as Salim Hall. The Fort is said to have been built by Nikumbh Rajput in 928 A.D.

Description of Bala Quila Fort:
Alwar Fort spreads 5 kilometers North to South and stands at a soaring height of 305 meters above the city. The Fort is said to have 15 large and 51 small towers. Even though the fort is in a derelict condition now it well reflects the past grandeur. The ornate gates of the Fort are well worth noticing. Huge and imposing each is named differently. Jai Pol, Suraj Pol, Laxman Pol, Chand Pol Kishan Pol, are some of the famous entry points of the Fort.
