Dedicated to Lord Shiva, Hoysaleswara Temple is a historical Hindu temple in Karnataka. It is located in Halebidu and is known as the largest shrine in the region of Halebidu. King Vishnuvardhan was the ruler when this temple’s foundation was laid. It is one of the magnificent examples of the Hoysala style of architecture and attracts visitors on a huge scale.

1) Hoysaleswara Temple is a Hindu temple of the past era and was built during the rule of the Hoysala King Vishnuvardhan. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is constructed in a beautiful manner.
2) The temple walls, both interior and exterior, are beautifully carved with the artful patterns. The sanctum of the temple houses a Shivalinga that is directly visible from the courtyard of the temple premises where the huge Nandi bull is placed.
3) The interiors of the temple are also decorated with the different mythological depictions like Lord Krishna playing the flute and people dancing, Lord Shiva performing the cosmic dance (Nataraja), Krishna lifting Govardhana hill, Lord Ganesha dancing, Lord Rama killing Vali, Lord Hanuman flying with the mountain etc.

Hoysaleswara Temple is an ancient shrine and no devotee is allowed to perform any kind of abhishekam of the Shivalinga that is located inside the sanctum. Only the fruits and garlands are allowed in the form of offerings that are returned to the devotees as Prasad.
