Manjarabad Fort is a historical monument in Karnataka. It stands on the border of Hassan district and is located close to the extended Western Ghats. This fort was built under the reign of Tipu Sultan when he was busy establishing his dominance over the region. This fort is different in terms of its architecture due to its octagonal shape. It was built by the French architects because Tipu was associated with the French to remove all other powers in the country. In the year 1792, this fort was constructed on the pattern of the military forts to keep an eye on every movement.
It Is Known For:-
1) Manjarabad Fort’s octagonal shape makes it different from other forts. It stands in the shape of a star when seen from bird’s eye view.
2) It was built using mortar and granite stone for providing protection to the army barracks and ammunition storage. There were special rooms constructed below the ground level for the storage of the gunpowder and remained cool even during the hot weathers.
3) There are total six watch towers located inside the fort.
4) By climbing the fort, a visitor can capture the view of the Western Ghats shrouded in mist. On a clearer day, the Arabian Sea can also be seen.
Best Time To Visit:-
Manjarabad Fort attracts numerous visitors on a huge scale. It is usually visited between January-April and October-December. It is the righteous time for embarking a trip to this place. No entry fee is charged from the visitors.
