Mecca Masjid
Mecca Masjid, located very close to the Charminar at Hyderabad is the largest mosque of South India. Originally started by Sultan Mohammad Quli Qutb Shah, the mosque was completed by the Mughal Emperor and conquerer Aurangazeb. The mosque is said be have bricks brought from Mecca, built into the walls of the main arch and hence the name - Mecca Masjid. The mosque can accommodate upto 10,000 worshippers at prayer at a time. There is a room in the courtyard, which is believed to house the relic of the Prophet Mohammed..
