Things To Do In Nairobi

Nairobi is Kenya's capital and home to fascinating monuments, places and the stimulating mix of cultures. A cosmopolitan collection of shops, a rich blend of cultural activities, long chain of restaurants and friendly people makes it an ideal holiday destination. Nairobi has so much to give that you will actually have to extend your stay over here. Here you have an endless list of things to do to distract yourself and escape from the hustle and bustle of the city life. Take the complete advantage of the city's location and closeness to the national wildlife reserve and enjoy the thrill.

Best Places to Visit :
  •  The National Museum

This museum gives the best introduction to the country as it has some of the rarest collections of birds and wildlife species. The diversity in the animal life preserved here is quite impressive.

  • The National Archives

This little museum cum art gallery has a range of paintings and tribal photographs of ancient Africa.

  • The Railway Museum

It is a privately owned museum that has a treasure trove of photographs and memorabilia of the construction of the Lunatic Express, the Mombasa to Kampala railway line.

  • Jamia Mosque

It is a large and striking mosque very popular amongst the tourists. The typical grand central dome is one of main attractions. The ornate green and white exterior contrasts strongly with the simple interiors.

Galavant Africa Safaris was absolutely brilliant in organising our safari to Kenya. We were a family of 4 travelling to Kenya for the first time: from the moment we were received to the time we departed the planning in which things were done was nothing short of fantastic. They understood our budget and the fact that we had two small children with us was carried out in the most efficient manner. Highly highly recommended. If you want that Kenyan dream holiday to come true make sure you use Galavant Africa Safaris. ...more

An enjoyable day trip from Nairobi We took a day trip of Nairobi National Park, Giraffe centre and Karen Blixen museum from Safarilinks. The communication with Douglas was prompt, transparent and professional. Our driver and guide Titus was friendly and knowledgeable. Even though it was raining in the morning and we couldn't see lions because of that, we still saw Rhinos, Hippos, Giraffes, Zebras, Impalas, Buffaloes, Crocodiles, Antelopes and lots of birds in their natural habitat. We had a nice day trio and would recommend this company to fellow travelers. ...more

This was our first time in Kenya, and we had the best time there with Amazing Memories Safaris. Everything from pick-up to the final drop-off was perfect. Everything was very well communicated and they ensured that we had a memorable experience. The owner - Anne was very helpful for choosing very good lodges for our stay during the trip. Our trip started off with Dennis receiving us at the Nairobi airport and he led us to Duncan, who was our guide and driver for the whole Safari. Duncan is amazing,he is very very well informed, knowledgeable and has a great eye to spot animals. He is very pleasant, friendly and flexible. ...more

Thanks to Anne and all the team at Amazing Memories Safaris for making our (my son and I) first trip and safari to Kenya a great experience. All the pre-trip itinerary options and selections were done very well; in fact I had initially booked to travel in March, but managed to break my leg in February, so had to change our travel dates to July. Anne reorganised the trip with no problem, finding us accommodation in what was of course an already mostly fully booked peak safari season. Our trip did not get off to the best start as we missed our connection from Europe to Nairobi due to a late incoming flight. Anne reorganised the team to pick us up at the airport very (very) early the morning after our scheduled arrival no problem. The safari part (6 nights: 1 in Treetops, 1 in Lake Nakuru, 4 in Masai Mara) all ran like clockwork, our driver John was excellent as both our guide and driver. All we had to worry about was getting to the hotel receptions each morning and afternoon, where John was always waiting, ready to go. In terms of game sightings, we saw all the Big Five and many other species, including cheetah. In the Masai Mara, we saw 28 lions, including 18 on one day, in 3 different sightings, all very close up. Of course, sometimes it is the luck of the day, but we were very happy with what we saw. While we joined the sightings where many vehicles had already gathered which is normal (for lions, leopard and cheetah - the drivers / guides keep in touch by radio to see where the action is), John also had the patience to look in many areas on our own, away from the main tracks, and this produced a leopard only a few feet from us, which we were able to enjoy by ourselves. Once again, many thanks to Anne and the team. ...more
